7:11pm – CNN is reporting that Barack Obama has won the majority of total pledged delegates. U2’s Beautiful Day is blaring behind him at his rally in Des Moines, Iowa. Even as a Hillary supporter, I have to say it is a beautiful day. Let’s kick some McCain ass! Obama just started speaking… more soon.
7:15pm – Where has Mr. Peabody taken us this time? He’s doing the MLK thing again. And he’s talking about Ted Kennedy. The times they are a changin’. Now he’s gloating… to Iowans (‘they counted us out,’ etc.)? OK, back on message now…
7:18pm – We value work? Since when? We don’t send our kids to war in vain? Remember the first quagmire.
7:19pm – ‘The values that bind us together as one country… hungry for change.’ Someone’s finially trying to win over the lunch pail crowd, methinks.
7:21pm – ‘… petty bickering that’s consumed Washington.’ Actually, from 2000-2006, there wasn’t any of that, and that was the problem.
7:24pm – He’s congratulating Hillary. Guess who’s going to be VP. ‘That, Mr. Anderson, is the sound of inevitability.’ -Agent Smith, The Matrix – Back to McBush…
7:25pm – The crowd keeps booing. I love it! Those Iowans are crazy man, crazy!
7:26pm – He keeps talking about change, but it sounded like socialism until he started talking about lowering taxes and ending outsourcing. Nice save.
7:27pm – ‘…begging the Saudi Royal family for oil.’ Sound familiar?
7:29pm – ‘yesterday’s policies…’ Did we mention John McBush is old? Yes We Can! Yes We Can! Yes We Can! Yes We Can!
7:31pm – Young people and $5 checks? Oh yeah, he wants that blue collar crowd alright.
7:32pm – A Montgomery Bus Boycott reference? Whodathunkit?
7:33pm – ‘This is our country.’ An OK speech. Donna Brazille is kissing serious ass. David Gergen has a more balanced approach. ‘Not his best speech.’ I agree. More coming up soon…
7:51pm – Bill Schneider says Clinton Democrats are not jumping on the Obama bandwagon. It’s a little too soon to tell, no?
7:52pm – Anderson asked Paul Begala if Hillary would be OK with being VP. He just spouted the conventional wisdom, so clearly he’s not giving up on her yet. I’m a diehard too Paul, but I’m not blind. You’re watching the same race I am.
8:07pm – 38% Reporting in Oregon, John King is reporting that the majority of the populace inhabits a western corridor of the state, and it looks like Obama’s winning in the population centers. Looks like an Obama landslide already… the polls have been closed for 7 minutes. Very impressive.
8:12pm – It’s official. Obama takes Iowa by nearly 30 points. Game, set, match. Thanks for reading my liveblog, I’ll have more analysis in a separate post coming tomorrow after I’ve had time to digest all of this. A highly eventful night as once again my primary candidate is defeated. *sigh* Again, thanks for reading.
